Assembling Writing Binders

400 Campus Drive

Dakota, IL 61018

Job Description: I helped assemble writing binders for the elementary teachers to use throughout the year.  Over the course of two days, I punched holes and put the paper into the binders.  When the tasks were complete, I helped deliver the finished binders to the teachers.

Skills: The skills that I used to perform this service were dedication, responsibility, and trustworthiness.  Dedication was used because this task involved tedious work that quickly became tiresome and dull.  I did have several others working with me, but nonetheless, it was slightly boring.  I used responsibility by being a responsible student in the copy room.  We were given the instructions and were then responsible for whatever happened in there without the supervision of an adult.  Trustworthiness almost goes hand in hand with responsibility because we first had to be trusted to be in the copy room without a supervisor.  Being by ourselves in there to complete the job was a little intimidating, but nevertheless, we proved our trustworthiness by getting it done well.

Insight: To be quite honest, I don’t think this type of community service is for me.  While I did feel good about helping the teachers out, I would rather volunteer to do something more interactive.  I think this was a positive, learning experience for me because it was a trial-and-error-type-scenario.  I now know what type of service I enjoy and what type of service I don’t enjoy as much.
