Speech

Speaking is a major part of the business world.  One has to give presentations, communicate with other employees, and being able to persuade people of certain things.  Speech has helped me develop the key tools that I will need in order to be successful within the business world.  I now know how to summarize speeches on reference notecards, write different types of speeches for different situations, use rhetorical devices to improve my speaking, and much more.  The first example that I have chosen is my Prized Possession Speech, which was the very first speech we did in class.  We were able to have notecards to reference for help, and the speech itself had to be between two and three minutes.  Because it was the first speech, I was somewhat nervous, so I prepared for it quite a bit.  It was certainly a learning experience, and in my opinion, I have improved and learned even more since then.  The second example shown is my Persuasive Speech.  I completed this with a partner.  For this speech, my partner and I had to make a powerpoint about our topic of choice.  We chose to do it on homeless veterans and P.T.S.D.  This time, our speech had to be considerably longer and was around eight minutes.  We also had to look more professional and were graded in more areas than the Prized Possession Speech.  By doing this, I learned more about speaking with someone else, using a presentation to help guide us, and how to implement persuasive devices into a speech.  Overall, Speech has expanded my speaking skills altogether, which will be very necessary in my future.
