Cleaning the Student Council Closet
400 Campus Drive
Dakota, IL 61018
Job Description: With the help of my friend, Hannah Fehr, we cleaned the student council closet the entire week during homeroom. It was a complete mess when we began, and it took us over one homeroom to just remove everything from the closet. In addition to cleaning, we went through every box and threw away unnecessary decorations.
Skills: Although many skills were used while performing this task, perhaps the most vital was time management. We had to be strategic, yet effective with what we were taking out of the closet. With only around half an hour per day to work on it, we had to get right to work each day. Another skill utilized in performing this activity was reliability. We were trusted to use our best judgment to determine what was to be kept. It was only the two of us, so whatever happened was our responsibility.
Insight: I really enjoyed this particular community service. I was able to work hard but still have fun at the same time. In addition, knowing that I was improving the condition of that closet gave me a sense of accomplishment. By the end of the week, I was able to feel proud of what Hannah and I accomplished, and that in itself is a good feeling.
