National Honor Society
National Honor Society has been both a honor and a learning experience for me. The first year, I was not able to hold an office, seeing as how I was a junior; however, as a senior, I am the Vice President. In my junior year, as a whole, we didn't do very many major projects besides selling hot chocolate and cappuccino and making Valentine's Day cards for the elderly. I invested quite a bit of time into those two projects though. So far, in my senior year in NHS, we have been quite ambitious and are planning to do more. For instance, we were put in charge of the Veteran's Day assembly. I assisted with setting up for the assemby, checking the veterans in and asking for all of their service information, speaking during the assembly, and helping at the breakfast afterwards. Another thing that we have done so far this year is sell hot chocolate and cappuccino. This is our biggest fundraiser to raise money for our scholarships. I help make and sell this on certain mornings before school. Something new that I am doing this year is organizing a tutoring program. I am keeping a log of who tutors and the time that they tutor at. The tutors will be able to use this time for community service hours, and kids are also receiving the help they need during homeroom.
I have learned much from all of these projects. Organization and professionalism are the two main ones. Without these skills, my tasks as Vice President would be much harder. Since I plan on majoring in business management, both organization and professionalism are key components. Because of my time in NHS, I am more prepared for my future career, and I have the necessary skills to succeed.
